CMNS 253

Yes, this semester went by so fast, and it seems as though every new semester that comes up goes by faster and faster. Well, the semester is over and I guess there is always that little slightest feeling "Oh its over already =/ ??" but hey, there is also that feeling of triumph, accomplishment and perhaps most important of all there is knowledge attached everyone who was in those lectures. I have to say "Spirit of the Web" was really a winner when it comes to books for this semester, it was a really engaging and sophisticated read. What I have enjoyed the most about this class was probably the final video project which took lots of effort but definitely paid off and also the many theories we have learned about, such as: technology undermines meaning, reality, freedom, and so on, that part of the course really intrigued me. It was very interesting to see different theories on what technology is bringing forth to our world. Especially in a world like ours today, with new greater technological advances arousing before our eyes every minute. Therefore I would like to thank the instructor E. Hamilton and also all my classmates for this very interesting class, see you all next semester! About that picture above, I found that in google images as I typed up Capilano College, who didn't see that bike on their way to class this semester? haha See Ya

My Phone has Serious Issues... Just Update It - iPhone 2.2 Software Update

Isn't that something revolutionary today, just like computers which run through constant updates we are now having several updates even in our phones. The newest Apple update for the iPhone is version 2.2 iPhone Software.
This update promises several things such as:
  • Improved stability and performance of Safari
  • Improved sound quality of Visual Voicemail messages
  • Enhancements to Maps
    • Google Street View*
    • Public transit and walking directions
    • Display address of dropped pins
    • Share location via email
  • Decrease in call setup failures and dropped calls
and many other improvements to your iPhone. That makes me wonder whether companies today simply release updates in order to make our experience better and more satisfying or whether they do that because they have released their products in such a rush that it wasn't really the meant final product to hit the shelves. With such huge pressure in these big brand names today to put products on the market, they always seem to have a timeline to be met, which in turn probably leads them to a releases of unfinished products. I definitely see the other side of the argument as well, perhaps errors just come within these big projects and I believe that them having the ability to fix their products is amazing. How do you see this, simply as a problem or a solver?

The iPhone Hype

As I was browsing around for iPhone photos on google, I stumbled across this image which has really impressed me and I even remembered a day in which my cousin was showing me this Nokia N95 phone which he had and I was like "wow". The reason this ad came to my attention is because in my previous post I have mentioned that perhaps society attaches such values to the iPhone which are in fact not necessarily the most accurate, for instance the iPhone as one is able to tell from this photo is not the highest technological phone available in the market today. Therefore relating to the question from my previous entry one more time, is the iPhone just an amazing marketing hype which has taken over consumerist societies mind? It is funny because when I remembered my cousin showing me his phone I did remember that I was pretty impressed, but for sure I was not nearly as impressed as when I first got my hands on the iPhone. Now addressing a different question, is perhaps the style of the iPhone in terms of its looks and design one of the reasons for its great success?

iPhone Surpasses Razr In Sales

The iPhone has not only become the preferred wireless Smartphone among business users but it has also just recently surpassed the Motorola RAZR as it is today's leading wireless bought by adult consumers during this third quarter in the United States. Something that has left me wondering is what is the influence that society puts in an individual in order for him to purchase an iPhone, that is if there is any influence? Something definetly worth discussing about are the iPhone sales rising tremendously because it is simply the best product out there or has society adpated a notion that one needs an iPhone in order to be able to live? If possible feel free to share your thoughts!

The Sucess of the iPhone for Business Smatphone Users

That's right apple has done it, according to a study done by J.D. Power and Associates the iPhone ranks the highest among "business wireless Smartphone users." The study measured five key factors: Ease of operation; operating system; physical design; handset features; battery aspects. The iPhone outperformed its competition by scoring a total of 778/1000 while RIM's Blackberry came in second scoring a 703/1000. The implications of this study are huge because it demonstrates that the iPhone is not simply entertainment oriented. The iPhone has proven itself to be a marvelous tool also for enterprise and more business oriented consumers. This leaves RIM with a big headache to worry about. It's marvelous to see how apple really was able to group so many things into one single item, an item that can be personalized and adjusted to meet anyone's needs.

The meaning of an iPhone in society today

In this post my focus is not in whether the iPhone is better or worst then any other competing multimedia devices available out there. My simple focus during this short post just about raising the question of what are the meanings associated with having an iPhone in today's society. Towards several people having an iPhone today represents your up to date, in our fast paced world. Not only that but several people worldwide attach several values to the iPhone, values which vary vastly, some believe the iPhone to represent: luxury, futuristic, style, practical, efficient, wealth and so on. However just like everything in the world, there are always two sides to the coin. There are also several people who believe the iPhone to be just an extraordinary well laid out marketing campaign, people who believe it is totally unnecessary, not worth the value, too big, overrated and so on. With both sides in mind I leave my readers to the following questions, how would you rate the iPhone and why? If possible also analyze how you would rate it without thinking about society and its values, instead just think about the technology is it really that revolutionary or not?

All in One

In a fast paced and changing world the iPhone, seems to fit all yours needs inside. What one has to understand is that the iPhone is so revolutionary not only because it brought forth several technologies together such as "gps, mp3, mp4, safari, and many others" however its biggest achievement was how Apple was able to make the user interface so simple to use. Therefore in our fast paced world, nothing is better in order for you to stay connected and up to date with everything that is going on around the globe such as the iPhone. The iPhone breaks down completely all notions of distance and time, if one has an iPhone today; one is able to be pratically anywhere instantly. I leave readers to the following question today what do you believe are the implications of always being connected, is it a good or a bad thing?
